What Cataterra stores about you, and why.
Cataterra uses no third-party analytics and no advertising trackers. Nothing described here leaves the server the game runs on.
What is stored
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your account | A username, and an email address only if you set one. Guest accounts have neither until you claim them. |
| Your game state | Everything the game needs to remember between visits: energy, gold, Marks and a record of each Mark earned or spent, the perks you have bought, health, where you are, your skills, inventory, item returns waiting for room in your inventory, equipment and its condition, gear delivery receipts, your prepared combat technique, weapon familiarity and expedition progress, shelter, synthons, insight, research, discoveries, material investigations with their saved observations and conclusions, original procedure predictions and later corrections kept privately with those investigations, your privately chosen item and quantity stock target, how many of each item you have made or gathered for mastery, who you have spoken to and when you first spoke, achievements, quests, daily commissions, what you have put into the settlement's buildings, what a failed run cost you, which is held so Unclaimed Property can give part of it back, and which pieces of writing you have taken down in the Reading Room. |
| What you send to other players | Chat messages, direct messages, deal conversations, trade offers, market listings and negotiations, the record of completed sales, your one-way player blocks, and channels you mute to silence unread badges. Blocks prevent new contact in either direction; mutes affect only your view. If you report a chat message, staff can review its text, your reason and optional context, the people involved, and their review notes. Message reports can outlast chat history; deal conversation lines are cleared after 14 days, and copied report text and staff notes are cleared 90 days after a report is closed. A message or a trade involves someone else, so their copy is part of their account as well as yours. |
| A record of what you do in the game | One row per action: gathering, crafting, trading, signing in and so on, with the numbers involved. It is used to balance the game, to see whether people come back, and to post the settlement figures in the Counting House, where your own line is shown to you and everyone else's is counted into a total that names nobody. It is never used to decide what you earn, and it is never sold or shared. |
| Technical necessities | A session cookie so you stay signed in, and the time you were last seen, which is what shows you as online in chat. |
How long it is kept
Account and game state are kept for as long as the account exists. The record of play is kept for 90 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your own account, from Help & settings inside the game. It asks you to confirm once, and a claimed account re-enters its password. It then removes the account and everything listed above straight away. There is no undo and no recovery window. Deletion cascades: no game state, chat message, listing or record of play outlives the account it belongs to.
